Cricket season 2011

Cricket in France began in the second half of the nineteenth century, and started to become popular in the 1890s with a dozen or so teams. The Club has had an active Cricket section since 1893, when the first publicly recorded matches took place.

Chairman’s Report 2011
I think this was one of the most enjoyable seasons for a long time.
After losing the Toby Cox Trophy to the Juveniles in the opening match of the season, we thrashed them soundly in September.
We won 20 out of the 29 games and drew one, and won the Imperius Trophy in the 20/20 competition. And I think we’ve shown again that we can field a pretty strong side, when necessary.
There were some pretty impressive individual performances, notably Jon Riches top score170 n.o, Brett’s 146 n.o and the best bowling performance of 6 for 20 by Naveed ‘Chucker’ Khan. There were also some sensational catches and fine ground fielding.
We’re very happy to welcome some new members, particularly Chris Brown and Phil Gay who are both assets to the club, as are their charming ladies, who have contributed to what seems to be a new and very pleasant social atmosphere in the club.
There have also been some terrific teas provided by players and their other halves.
I’d like to thank Jon for all his work on fixtures and on his enthusiasm for practically everything to do with the club, Andy Mac for his continued devotion to the junior cricket section, to Robin for organising another enjoyable tour to the UK. And also to Brett for regaling us with weekly episodes of “The Meredith Saga”, which is like a blend of ‘Come Dancing’, ‘Sex in the City’ and Casualty’. I believe there are plans to serialise it on Canal + (Ist Saturday of every month, around midnight, just after ‘Le Journal du Hard’.
