Congratulations to the team for their results in 2010! 

The Standard Athletic Club has been playing competitive football for over a century. The Saturday football team is proud to be maintaining this long tradition down the years and, in our own humble fashion, to perpetuate the memory of our illustrious forerunners.

Standard Athletic won the first ever French League title in 1894 (and on several other occasions in subsequent years). Of course, today’s team has more modest ambitions and plays in a much lower division but we continue to give our all to defend the club’s name and colours, symbolic of our rich footballing past.

As well as some full members, today’s team is principally made up of seasonals. Most of the players have been representing SAC for over a decade and are very proud to be part of the club’s long footballing history. Our squad of 20 plays in the Critérium du samedi League, a competition for teams in the Ile de France region with four divisions. The lowest division is the Première division followed by the Promotion d’Honneur, Division d’Honneur Régionale and the top division, the Division d’Honneur. After an excellent season last year with the team finishing top of the Promotion d’Honneur we were promoted to the Division d’Honneur Régionale. Following a very promising start for a newly promoted team we are currently in second place.

Being involved in an official competition under the auspices of the Fédération Française de Football requires significant commitment throughout the season from the players and regular attendance at Thursday night training.

As a team we are very aware of the fact that some members may be troubled on match days by the noise, the presence of the visiting team and the state of the changing rooms. But we would like to stress that we do our best to respect the Club’s rules, to not disturb the members and to leave the premises as clean as possible.

The Saturday football team would also like to take this opportunity to emphasise our love for the game and our attachment to this very special club that is Standard. For those members that are interested we hope to keep you up to date with the latest news from the team.
