It does not cover the SAC's use of information acquired through other interactions you may have or have had with the SAC, e.g. application for membership, membership renewal or a professional or contractual relationship.

The Standard Athletic Club is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

The Standard Athletic Club may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 1st May 2018 and includes compliance with the EU GDPR, effective 25th May 2018.

What we collect

At the present time, the SAC does not collect any personal information from anybody, either visitor or member, through this website with certain exceptions. Any personal, nominative information the SAC holds on individuals is as a result of their present or past formal involvement with the SAC.

As a future extension of this website, particularly in the area of implementation of 'authorised user' functionality to members and employees, we may decide that it is appropriate to retain the following information, for which your explicit permission will be sought.

  • name, title, gender, membership category
  • contact information including email address
  • other information relevant to member interests

As a by-product of our website installation, and of your use of the website, we are able to record the times of your visit, the pages you visit, the Internet Protocol (IP) address* used by the equipment connecting you to the internet, the software (version of browser, operating system, etc.) used by the communications equipment, and whether you connected directly to the site or were referred to it by a third party, e.g. a search engine. This information is recorded by the websites host system in a traffic log. This helps us analyse data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

In particular, should you subscribe to one or more of our newsletters, each reading of the message will trigger a recording of the device used, the date and time and the device's IP address; also any links (URL) in the newsletter that the reader clicks on will be recorded, particularly to evaluate the efficacy of the newsletters and the subjects showing the most interest.

Notes:

* Under the GDPR the IP address of the device used to connect to this website may also be considered personal information.

How we use cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site and particular things you might like to remember about your last visit. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

Some cookies, for example, those relating to remembering your login details or language preferences are so-called 'persistent'. They will remain on your system until deleted by you (though your browser). Most of the cookies are so-called 'session cookies'; they are only used during the time you are interacting with the website and are used to track your passage from page to page so that the context of your interaction may be kept. These cookies expire at the end of your session, or when you restart your browser, whichever comes first.

Overall, cookies and logs help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

We do not allow third-party applications to use our website, nor allow third party web providers to pass through our website to you. (See links to other websites)

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of the website. All browsers also allow you periodically to delete all or some of the cookies from a particular site.

Links to other websites

Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.
