The Cricket Section has been working with teachers from a local school, the Institut Notre Dame, to organise a practical extension to the classes they have had recently on the sport.
Seven 4ème classes (12- and 13-year-olds) have been learning about the spirit of the game and its cultural impact as part of their English classes, while at the same time their sports teachers will be introducing the basics of the sport as part of their PE lessons.
They could only go so far in the limited space available at the school, and so we have received them in two groups for a half-day training session, in which they would be taught the basics of batting, bowling and fielding using the plastic balls and bats of the same type we use for U11 junior cricket, followed by a half day round robin tournament.
The first sessions were held on Monday 13th and Thursday 16th afternoons and the tournaments were held on the Monday and Thursday afternoons of the week of the 20th May.
Rarely have we seen so many kids taking part in cricket at one time, and they really seemed to be enjoying themselves as the photos by Roger show, and also the thank-you cards made by the children themselves!
