Sunday 11 July 2021 Match Report: SAC vs Shakeel XI

Due to a last-minute change in scheduling, Shakeel XI stepped in to face Standard Athletic. Shakeel, himself, won the toss and elected to bat with a power-packed batting line-up. However, what was to follow for the first half of the innings was some incredible fast bowling by Standard Athletic. Both the openers got the ball to move in the air and off the seam, reflecting the fact that there were no extras in the first 9 overs. After the first 3 wickets fell cheaply, the opposition captain Shakeel took matters into his own hands and let his bat do the talking by hitting some lusty blows, leaving Standard needing 118 runs to win.

SAC opened the batting with two contrasting styles. With one attacking the bowling from one end and the other holding up proceedings at the other, Standard lost their first wicket in the 8th over with the score at 33. Another couple of wickets fell quickly before Standard decided to change gears in the 11th over and produced 16 runs coming from it. This signalled a change in proceedings and Nisseem and Mujahid finally finished the game off for SAC in the 25th over, to register a comfortable win.

The result - a four-wicket win for Standard Athletic.

Wednesday 14th July 2021 “Bastille Day” Match Report: SAC vs Pondy Eagles CC

Bastille Day was marked on Wednesday with Standard hosting Pondy Eagles CC in Meudon. After Nisseem won the toss and chose to bat, opener Malith began by rotating the strike effectively as the wet grass made boundaries difficult. Ably supported by Amarjith (10 runs) and Shakeel (44 runs) partnerships were built before Malith was adjudged lbw for 69 runs. This left Pondy Eagles requiring 187 runs to win.

With the sun finally coming out, Pondy Eagles seemed to have the better of the conditions. Standard’s bowlers, however, had other ideas and made scoring difficult by bowling very accurately. This forced the opposition batsman into playing rash shots, giving their wickets away cheaply and allowing Standard to wrap up a 102 run victory.

The result – a 102 run victory for Standard Athletic

Having now won 5 games in a row, SAC are looking forward to continuing their good form against Thoiry and Chantilly this weekend, before hosting the Paris Knight Riders on Sunday 25th July.
