On Saturday, Arkadin CC won the toss in a declaration match and elected to bat first, but struggled against tight bowling from SAC openers Nisseem Burkule and Vishal Jagtap. In the middle overs, Arkadin looked to up the tempo with eyes on the declaration, but ran into trouble in the form of John Hardy’s guileful bowling. John took four wickets and, together with excellent tight bowling from Jyothy Deveraj and Mahadi Hasan, they kept the visitors contained, forcing a sporting declaration at 177 for 7 off 44 overs, leaving SAC around 40 overs for the chase. After some tight early bowling from Arkadin, the declaration began to look a bit too generous as Thodi Andersson went through the gears and started to put the ball out of the park. At the other end, Alastair Thomas was more sedate (with the exception of one Thodi-like pull for six!). The pair took SAC to victory without loss of a wicket, Thodi making a fantastic 105 not out (including six sixes), and Alastair finishing on 56 not out. The day ended with an excellent BBQ dinner in the rose garden accompanied by some well-deserved liquid nourishment.
Another top day on Sunday (though with a different result for SAC), as the club was privileged to host the France Cricket President’s XI. SAC won the toss and elected to bat first, but got into early trouble against a strong bowling attack and never really recovered, all out for 94, despite 30 from debutant Rajat Ahluwalia. SAC had to take early wickets, and Nisseem Burkule obliged, taking three quick wickets in a fiery opening spell to give SAC an outside sniff of victory. But the President’s XI middle order held firm and guided them to what was, in the end, a very comfortable win by 6 wickets. We hope to welcome the President’s XI back next year and hopefully, we can score a few more runs then!
