We had our first game of the Season on Sunday, the 5th of May against the British Embassy, which SAC Won by 15 runs.
After winning the Toss & choosing to Bat first in a game of 35 overs, SAC had its new look opening pair of Mansoor Ahmad (25) & Jonathan Taylor (31) batting solidly for an opening stand of 40. With Wickets on either side of the Drinks break, SAC found its innings faltering at 110 for 7. All 7 wickets went to one oppo bowler, Johnny. Batting at No.9, Shakeel Ahmad (23*) stepped up to drag SAC’s innings to some respectability, equally supported by Money Singh (18*). SAC finished its innings at 161/9.
In the 2nd innings, Azam playing his first game in a while got the crucial wicket of Shan early in the innings to get things rolling for Standard. Their No.2 & No.3 played solidly to take British Embassy to 80/1, as they safely negotiated the SAC bowlers, setting themselves nicely for a charge later on. Right before drinks, Money Singh got us a breakthrough leaving the game balanced at Drinks. As we were not using the Old faithful Dukes ball on the day, the ball in use got all scuffed up, with the seam giving away & had to be replaced. This changed the fortunes decisively, as Dilip got their best bat with one seaming away, leaving them 3 down for 90. After which, Money put the Embassy innings into a spin, as he took 4 more wickets in a canter, to register the first 5-for for Standard this Season. Our new opening bat, Jonathan Taylor, stepped up to bowl a second spell to wrap up the Embassy innings with a wicket & run-out at 146. SAC won the first game of the Season by 15 runs.
Special Mention to Alex Kidwell for the lovely spread.
