Dear members,
The Tennis Section held its annual meeting last Saturday to review the past year and elect a new Tennis Committee.
For the 2025 season, your new Tennis Committee is: Matthew Curtin (chairman), Victoria Migliore (tournaments), Christine Butterworth, Philippe Ayme-Jouve (master of ceremonies, tennis courts), Michael Golub, Aymerick Chastenet, with observers Georgina Marrison (Friday night social tennis) and Sarah Whitley (liaison with Children’s Section, holiday camps).
The first thing to say is a big thank you to Philippe, first for holding the fort on tennis in the past year after some sudden departures from the previous TC, and secondly, for his eagerness to remain on the committee to help the Management Committee and ground staff with court maintenance.
At Saturday’s meeting, with 18 members present, there was a large majority vote for the new chairman (17 for).
The new TC will hold its first meeting this coming Saturday at the Club at 3 pm so if there are any members who would like to join the team because have some time and energy to devote to ramping up tennis at SAC this year, please join us.
The TC’s aim is to put even more bounce into SAC tennis - from social tennis, team tennis and tournaments to set-piece events such as the Old Rackets tournament on Classic Car Day which was one of the highlights of 2024 thanks to Philippe’s hard work.
We also have Gregory’s great new coaching crew in place for adults and children — much credit for that goes to the outgoing TC — and we are hoping to make this partnership work even better in 2025.
So while the weather is less than tennis-friendly right now, spring is near and summer is coming for a special SAC tennis season. Watch this space.
