You may recall the intense storm of last July, which downed trees, destroyed our tent, and damaged facilities (tennis fence, lighting, Court 7, cricket net, …).
Â
Here is a brief update on our current status regarding repairs and the insurance process.
Our total damages claim (before any depreciation factored in by our insurance company) was ~€160K, which was submitted with all receipts within a couple of weeks of the event (with major work from Sylvie Goujon). Given the size of the claim, the process has been quite slow at our insurance company. We learned 2 weeks ago that our claim is now at €120K, after deducting the depreciation on our assets, which were destroyed. They may make further adjustments (downwards). For the moment, they have paid for just the initial clean-up and €8K. They have also requested multiple administrative steps, including new plans for the entire Club and re-certification of our installations. These additional steps were completed last week (at a cost of around €5K). Given the urgency (major external events in September, which provided revenue to the Club, Classic Car Day, Guy Fawkes), the Club has invested in a replacement (pre-owned) tent, at a cost of €50K (versus around €80K for a new one).
We are awaiting confirmation of the size of the insurance payout before committing further funds. The most urgent situation is the tennis lighting. The Tennis Committee is working to get quotes to light Court 3 (our newest synthetic court). Matt Curtin and Roland Tchertoff visited a facility with the proposed solution last week and the TC is finalizing the project plan. We expect to soon be in a position to make this investment (completed project plan, confirmation of insurance reimbursement).
While the process is a little painful, we do expect to emerge from this situation with renovated facilities. Thanks to everyone for their patience, and to Gigi Cothier, Sylvie Goujon, Roland Tchertoff, Aymerick Chastenet, Matt Curtin and Philippe Ayme-Jouve for all the work behind the scenes.
