Cleaning up the grounds

Members who walk the grounds or watch football and cricket will know that the far corner of the grounds had been used to store debris for many years, with the addition of garden waste.
Coupled with some sick trees, the whole area was in poor shape. Over the past year, our staff and volunteers have removed countless skips of debris.
The ground has now been levelled and reseeded. Thanks to all who have helped with this. See the main article for a picture of the cleaned-up corner.

Football News - FIFFA last Sunday, Les Italiens this Sunday (10th)

SAC salvaged a confidence-boosting draw against FIFFA on Sunday after a run of defeats, putting the team in good spirits for this Sunday’s game against Les Italians, always a tough encounter. Goals from Alexandre, Alex and Arnaud ensured a well-earned 3-3 draw after our opponents had taken a two-goal lead.

After the previous Sunday’s heart-breaking 2-3 defeat against Los PIpos, SAC showed improved teamwork led by Arnaud Paquier and Gerald Strouts, backed by the irrepressible Rich “they’ll never get it passed me” Parkin in goal. The penalty we gave away and the open goal we missed have been quickly forgotten.

We had a great turnout for the match despite the logistical difficulties getting to the Club.

Let’s hope for another good showing - in numbers and goals - this Sunday (10th). Please sign up with an email to  for a 10 o'clock rendez-vous time for a prompt 10:30 start to the match.

Cricket News: Desert Springs European T20 Spain Feb 21-23 2022

The Cricket Section was invited to compete in a triangular series taking on a team from London, Royal Tigers or as they later became known, the Tiger Kings! and the Derbyshire CC Academy.
Disaster, a theme of the trip, struck before the wheels left the Orly tarmac, as the playing XI was reduced to 9.
Standard Athletic took this all in their stride and managed not to lose 25% of the four games, never being bowled out and improving on our score with each innings.
There were some great personal performances, Henry with bat and ball, Chris with the bat, Aditya in the field almost Jonty Rhodes like and the champagne moment of the tournament, a hat trick against Derbyshire from our new recruit Gaurav.
The team played the tournament in the right way. As a team a good time was had by all, so much so a pre-season is in the planning for 2023. The final financial disaster with a rental vehicle is best left unmentioned.
Desert Springs resort not only offers ICC accredited cricket ground but a European Tour golf course.
