 - “Healthy” (?) food … warming main courses, toffee apples, traditional ginger cake, …
 - British beer and mulled wine

Tickets at Earlybird prices available until 1 November are available via https://www.helloasso.com/associations/standard-athletic-club/evenements/guy-fawkes-and-bonfire-night-2025) or via the QR code on this poster

French legislation on smoking in outdoor sports clubs

image

As of the 1st of July 2025 (Décret 2025-582), smoking has been banned outdoors for sports clubs (as well as indoors), including Private Member’s Clubs (this includes parks, beaches, public gardens, sports facilities, etc.). As an ERP (a business which welcomes the public), this, therefore, includes the outdoor spaces at the Club; i.e., it is not permitted to smoke between when you enter the Club front door and when you leave it again. The law is motivated by the health hazards of second-hand smoke, even in outdoor areas, particularly for children.

We have recently put up additional signage to raise awareness of this.

Thanks to everyone for your understanding and compliance.

Old Rackets Tournament (21/9): prize winners show that fashion and tennis run in the family

image
Our annual Old Rackets Tournament took place under the last rays of summer sunshine on Sunday, 21 September with the Marrison and Prat families carrying off the fashion and sporting trophies.
Under the masterful organisation of Philippe Ayme-Jouve, it was Benoit Prat and his nephew Antoine (see photo in main article) who triumphed in the final. Runners-up were Kevin Jackson and Henrik Jessen.
As for the most elegantly dressed racketeers, it was Georgina Marrison with son Hugo who stole the show in their 1920s-style tennis kit. Suzanne Lenglen and Fred Perry would have been proud.
A big thank you to all who took part and to Mario Figueira de Ornelas for his super organisation of the Classic Car Day, providing an excellent backdrop -- among other things! -- to our tennis tournament,
The Tennis Committee

Newsletter and Website - call for volunteers

image

As we all know, our Club is an Association 1901, which is run largely by volunteers. Much of this work is behind the scenes. Among the most important contributors, for many years, has been Paul Miller, who produces this Newsletter, the website, and all the Flash News posts that we all receive.

Paul, after some 20 years, is now looking to hang up his Newsletter-mailings-website boots and transition out of these roles. Firstly, we would like to express our thanks to Paul for all that he has done … and secondly, this is a call for volunteers to take on one or more of the roles which Paul has so diligently performed.
