| | Doors, doors and more doors. Good and bad news.A) The new Club door
Anyone visiting the Club will have noticed that we have a new door!
Why, and is there anything we need to know?
Why? The old entry had 2 doors and opened/closed automatically by swinging in/out. Unfortunately this design led people to “help” the automatic mechanism by pushing when leaving the Club. The 2 doors also meant we had two mechanisms (which we had to keep for safety compliance) for double the repair cost. All of this meant that the motor was regularly broken leading frequent, inconvenient and expensive (many thousands of €€€s each time) repairs, as well as non-compliance with access regulations. The solution: a sliding door which addresses the compliance issue, while eliminating the temptation to “push” when leaving the Club
Things to know: 1) The installation is ongoing, with the external blind also being repaired today. Please bear with us while the mechanism is tweaked to work with our access badges. 2) And please, DO NOT MANUALLY FORCE THE DOOR. The new design will be less “tempting” than the old one, but can still be broken.
With this new door we will have improved security, compliance with fire regulations and much lower repair costs.
B) The door from Reception to the table tennis area
The glass panel was damaged this weekend, apparently by impacts from stones. This is not the first time this has happened. The repair cost for the cracked glass is, shockingly, €1000. So this makes the repair cost for this door €2000 over the past year.
It will be repaired in the coming days. Without cameras (which we will discuss at the AGM) it is impossible to know exactly how the impacts occurred. Nonetheless, we do know that launching stones with a racquet is a "game" played by some children near the table tennis table. Moreover, a member's car windscreen was recently severely damaged by stones launched from this part of the Club. We are fortunate that the stones have not also hit people.
Obviously, games with flying stones are not permitted in the Club. Thank you for reinforcing this in conversations with your children. If you see any such behaviour, please do contact our staff and/or a Member of the MC.
Thank you.
