The Club and the Clubhouse are meant to be shared by all members for their mutual enjoyment. To ensure that this can succeed, Members are kindly asked to follow a few basic “housekeeping” rules and general etiquette.
In the Clubhouse
Please do not put coats, sports bags and sports equipment (racquets, footballs etc.) on the tables. Instead, please use the coat racks (one is conveniently located near the Members’ fridge and the other is just outside the bridge room). If you find it necessary to bring your sports bags into the main room, please put them under the table or stack them in the far end of the Clubhouse, under the watchful eyes of Kate & William.
- Running in the Clubhouse
- Coming into the Clubhouse barefooted
- Wandering into the Clubhouse and on the balcony in your bathing suits
- Playing ball games in the Clubhouse and on the balcony
- Smoking in the Clubhouse, changing rooms, bridge room etc. These, together with the swimming pool area, are designated non-smoking zones. This includes electronic cigarette devices
- Coming into the Clubhouse in muddy shoes or dirty tennis shoes, this includes the fitness room
- Coming into the Clubhouse with pushchairs or prams (they must be left downstairs)
How you can help:
- The Club is essentially a self-service establishment. Please return all glasses to the bar and all dirty crockery and cutlery to the kitchen. Don’t hesitate to ask for a damp cloth to wipe down your table, leaving it pristine for your fellow members.
- Replace baby highchairs after use
- If you happen to break something, please inform the staff and offer to help clear.
- When bringing in your own food, a levy will be charged per cover for the use of club cutlery and plates. A corkage fee (droit de bouchon) has to be paid for each wine or champagne bottle drunk on the club premises.
- Please do not picnic in the Clubhouse when the weather is good, the gardens are perfect for picnics!
- The lift is a very expensive (and sensitive) piece of equipment and Members, of any age, should not treat it as a toy.
- Please do not wash muddy footwear in the changing rooms. There is a boot cleaning facility at the side of the men’s changing rooms next to the stairs.
At the Swimming Pool
Please refrain from:
- Eating and drinking in the pool area to help keep the wasp population to the minimum (water in plastic bottles is allowed). This also applies to baby food.
- Playing ball games in the pool
- Using voluminous inflatable lilos or similar in the pools
Children under 14 must be accompanied by parents or a designated adult over 18 years of age.
The small paddling pool is for the exclusive use of children aged from 0-5 years so that they can use it securely without being hassled by older children. It is not for playing volleyball, handball, frisbee, etc.
When outside the swimming pool area and particularly in the clubhouse you must cover your swimming costumes and wear shoes.
How you can help:
- Loungers cannot be reserved
- Vacate your pool lounger when you leave the pool area for any length of time
- Priority to adults on the loungers
It is important that Members use appropriate and authorised footwear on the tennis courts, squash courts, fitness room etc. E.g. Please do not use the Fitness Room equipment while still wearing your (muddy) outdoor shoes.
Shoes must be worn to and from the pool and from the cricket field.
First and foremost, parents are always responsible for their children when they are on Club premises. Children should not just be dropped off at the Club without a parent or other designated adult being in charge of their welfare and behaviour. Children are more accident prone than adults, but you can help keep the Club a safe place for them to play.
- Children always wear shoes in the Clubhouse and on the balcony, football boots are not allowed.
- Children do not run in the Clubhouse
- Children do not play in and on the lift
- Children do not play ball games in the Clubhouse and balcony
- Toys are returned to the Children’s room and put away
- Young children must NOT use the button to open the automatic exit doors. They cannot leave the premises unless accompanied by their parents.
Please remember to:
- Respect the dress code, i.e. predominately white (this also applies to children).
- Wear proper and appropriate tennis shoes, especially when playing on the clay courts
- Drag the clay courts before playing
- Water the courts if necessary
Snooker should not be played without the table light being switched on. This works on a token basis. The machine is situated near the back entrance to the kitchen. Due to the table height, young children are not allowed to play. Children between the ages of 12 to 16 are allowed to play but under the responsibility of an adult. Children under 12 cannot use the table.
Many members like to bring their non-member friends to the Club. You may only invite the same guest 6 times. If they wish to come more often than that, they must apply for membership. We also appreciate that you may not want to complete the formalities of paying for your guests in front of them. However, for security reasons, please do sign them in immediately. You can return discreetly to the front desk and put the appropriate corresponding fees in the available envelope or pay by credit card. Please fill out the envelope properly, i.e. with your name, date, and corresponding entry number from the Visitors’ book.
Please be extra vigilant during cricket matches when standing by the boundary, as cricket balls can arrive suddenly and at a great speed!
