The Standard Athletic Club is hidden in the forest of Meudon just minutes from the Etoile.
It is Paris's premier International English-speaking Sports and Social Club, the perfect place for all the family to play sports casually or competitively or just relax and enjoy the social life.

In preparation for Friday's Workshop, please find attached to the main article a short quiz on "Control-showing bids". There will be a short lesson starting at 10.30 followed by a mini-tournament and, after lunch, there will some supervised play or a little match depending on the numbers. Please let Claude () know if you can attend and whether you will also be there for lunch and/or the afternoon. Also attached for those who couldn't attend the tournament are the answers to last Tuesday's (24 Jan) quiz. The date of our next dinner and tournament is confirmed for Tuesday 4 February.
After a review of the year's activities and the perspectives for 2020 Sue Hall, outgoing Section Head, announced that, after some 20 years of service to the Section, including several years as Chair, she would be standing down from the committee and not seeking reelection.
The remaining members of the committee, John Greenwood (Treasurer), Joan Cosgrove (Hon Sec), Claude Jacques (Competitions), James Moore, and Frédéric Thiriet all stood for re-election and were duly voted in. John McCallum was voted in as a new member of the committee.
Frédéric Thiriet was nominated Chairman to replace Sue.
Team 1 played away against Verrières, a strong team that we had beaten previously at home; they were rumoured to be out for revenge and fielding their best possible team. We, on the other hand were missing 2 players. In the end, Team 1 won 3-2. Team 2 played Chaville at home and unfortunately lost 3-2. Read on for a full report and photo!
The U14 boys' team produced an epic 2-1 win, whilst the U11 boys' team managed a well-merited draw (1-1). Our girls' team, playing only their second match, fought valiantly against a much taller Vesinet team but ended up losing 1-6. Next matches are away against the British School on Sat 8 February.
Thanks to our close relationship with the Académie de Billard d’Argenteuil, the SAC has been offered the possibility to get some snooker coaching this winter from a former French national snooker champion, Yannick Poulain - 6 titles as Champion of France (1996,1997,2002,2003,2006,2008).
These special Master Classes will take place between the end of January and March 2020. Players will be coached individually for 2h at a fee of 50 €/h (100€). Yannick is willing to come to the SAC on a few dates.

The Tournament is starting to pick up speed with some results in and more matches planned! In the Open Singles, Dougie Anderson beat James Moore and Philippe Ayme Jouve beat Lee Beaves. In the Open Doubles, the Jameses Moore and Webb advanced thanks to a walk-over. Read on for more details.

The SAC's Burns Night celebration is on Saturday 25th January. All welcome, open to non-members.

The ALT’s team will be starting their matches in February and their first match will be against Vanves on Tuesday 4th.
The SAC Management Committee is delighted to announce that the next Meet the Members' Evening will be on Thursday, 6 February at 7 pm. Again, this will be an occasion for mutual exchange on any issues/matters of concern and inform you of any actions/ideas we have managed to implement as a result of previous meetings.
We will be organising Junior Tennis Camps during the weeks of 10-14 February and 17-21 February from 9 am to 6 pm for children aged from 4 to 17. Read on for registration and pricing.
Organised by the Association Meudon Bien-Être the Camp offers activities in English focused on Yoga and Vegetable cookery on 17 and 18 February for children aged 5-13.
The MC has decided on Sunday 17 May for holding the 2020 SAC Annnnual General Meeting. This date is outside the school holiday period and largely avoids the ponts of May. Please mark this date into your diaries and come in numbers to ensure a comfortable quorum. You will be receiving an official notification in due course.
