It has been a busy period since la rentrée, with the Management Team focused on 2 areas:

  • Projects, of the planned and unplanned variety
    • Pool (led by David Stabat). The technical descriptions of the work were completed and validated in November, and have been sent to potential suppliers, with a deadline of next week for receipt of bids. Based on these bids we will prepare project and financing options for consideration by Members in a January 21st EGM (please mark your diaries: the meeting and Agenda will be the subject of a separate communication). If approved, work would be undertaken in the February-April period.
    • The leaking bac à graisse for our kitchen, dating from the 1990s, was replaced in September/October (at a cost of €14K).  Project led by Emile.
    • We continued the execution of a multi-phase project aiming to eliminate humidity problems in the squash courts, and renovate the basketball court area (project led by David Moore)
      • Completed (at cost of around €10K to date)
        • New downspouts to reduce water flowing against walls and on ground
        • Installation of footer drains by the squash court walls
        • New surface on the basketball court, with levels adjusted to ensure water drains correctly away from the buildings
      • In process (estimated cost of €10K)
        • New fence around the basketball court.  Our lowest estimate is €5K
        • Replacement of damaged basketball hoop backboard
        • Repair of squash court flooring and wall damaged by water
        • Repainting, as required
    • Electricity repair (led by Emile). You will have noticed the electricity outage we had from Monday to Thursday of last week, with a recurrence during the (impromptu) candlelit Black Tie Christmas Dinner.  This was caused by an electrical fault in the kitchen dishwasher.  We completed repairs in our main transformer and in the kitichen electrical system, at a cost of €10K
    • Repair of cricket sight screen.  Painting completed in November.  Total costs for materials of €1K, with all work done by volunteers
  • Social life at the Club (Georgina, Roland T, Isabelle, Taha,…)
    • A new Children’s Committee has formed and is already adding to the social life of the Club
    • Increase in Bar/Restaurant activity
      • Staff: Yani, who has been with the Club for 3-4 years, will be leaving to pursue the career for which he has been training (architecture) from next week. Our thanks to Yani for all he has done. We expect to announce a new hire in the coming days (the search process has been ongoing for some week, led by Isabelle and Taha)
      • Music night, organized by Roland T. We hope the first of many.
      • In addition to our traditional year end activities, there is a special lunch this Saturday, by L’Entente (Le British Brasserie). A few places remain.  Please sign up at Christmas lunch with l'entente (helloasso.com)

May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

The Management Team
