Saturday 5th September saw Lille CC visit Standard Athletic for the first time in their history. SAC’s captain Thodi won the toss and decided to bat and his decision was rewarded after his team finished their 40 overs on 250 for 8. Notable knocks included a tidy 47 from Henry Colburn opening the batting, followed up by a clean hitting 73 from captain Thodi before some useful rear-guard power play from Imran (33 runs) and Sikandar (16 runs). One of the game’s highlights came from Sikandar whose one-handed catch was a joy to beyond.

In reply, Lille began well, with their opener Vishesh scoring an excellent 81 ably supported by some stoic defence from their president Maxime, with 44 and 28 runs respectively coming from Mohan and Abhay down the middle order. But SAC’s bowlers started to build the pressure and with Yeasen and Praneeth bowling economically allowed Imran and Sikandar to claim a number of important victims. With one wicket left and needing just one run for victory, Lille’s number 11 Victor was adjudged to have been trapped LBW by Sikandar meaning that the scores were tied at 250 runs apiece. Everyone agreed afterwards what a fantastic first fixture this had turned out to be and how fitting a finish it was for two very evenly matched teams.

Sunday 6th September saw Colombes CC took on Standard Athletic with captain Thodi again winning a consecutive toss and electing to bat. Anser and Thodi opened the batting and got off to a great start, scoring 86 and 21 runs respectively. After a mini-collapse in the top order, Praneeth (17 runs), Yeasin (16 runs) and Henry (38 runs) managed to steer SAC to a more than respectable 242 run total.

In response Colombes were bowled out for 203 runs, following a strange decision from two of their batsmen, who were set and scoring freely, to retire and allow others above them to bat. Perhaps it was this decision which allowed SAC to claim victory but, either way, Standard enjoyed an unbeaten weekend and look forward to playing PUC and Drancy respectively this weekend.
