Match report: SACC vs. Lille CC
It was our pleasure to host our annual visit from Lille CC (with the game reduced to 35 overs due to heat). Stand-in skipper Jackson lost the toss and Lille elected to bat. The experiment of the previous match continued with a mix of slow and not-so-slow bowlers opening up, Money and Sachin Singh. Inroads were soon made by SAC and by drinks Lille were teetering on 70-6, after drinks they regrouped and assisted by a cameo from SAC regular Praneeth, Lille recovered to finish on 191-9 from their allotted 35 overs, the bowlers gave a good account of themselves with Sachin, Alex and Dilip getting little reward from some good accurate spells, Money being the pick with 4 wickets from his seven overs.
Not content with turning upside down the approach to the bowling attack, the skipper started with an opening pair of Shaunak (opening bowler) and Mansoor, the innings got off to the worst possible start with Mansoor clean bowled off his second ball. Alex joined Shaunak and combined with some accurate Lille bowling and prudent batting got SAC through to drinks with the loss of Alex for 19. Two wickets down and needing 118 for victory off the final 18 overs.
As is often the case something of note happens the first over after drinks, this time Shaunak the bowler departed for a well-made 31 caught at slip, bringing Dilip to join Sachin in the middle, they set about the target with controlled aggression before Sachin departed for a well made 44 in the 29th over with still 42 runs required, Suobin helped Dilip steady the ship before Dilip departed in the 32nd for 45 with 12 runs needed off 18 balls, Tariq 5 n.o and Suobin 20 n.o made sure the Athlete’s got home with 9 balls to spare.
The result – a 4-wicket win for SACC.
