This past weekend, we held our Squash Challenge at the SAC, and we were delighted to see a strong turnout from our Squash Members, spreading both team spirit and early holiday cheer. Although the SAC narrowly fell to Montigny’s first squash team, the match was as close as a Christmas countdown—175 points to 146.
We were fortunate to have our young rising stars, Lucas and Sebastian, light up the scoreboard like a pair of festive ornaments. Montigny’s visit also gave us the chance to congratulate their player, Jérôme Rideau, last year’s King’s Cup winner and a certified “arbitre fédéral” for the French league. Jérôme kindly reminded us of the importance of keeping our courts in top condition for safe and enjoyable play. With that in mind, we’ve requested quotes from contractors to assess the squash courts, in coordination with the ongoing roofing work.
We look forward to seeing you back on court soon!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from the Squash Section! 🎄🥇🎾
Keep the Club's traditions alive and enjoy a nice (hot) cup of tea with biscuits from the UK from 4 pm to 5.30 pm at the Club at weekends!

Whilst it is getting colder out there, it's getting warmer on the courts! 4 victories out of 4 matches. Putting the SAC at the top of the league! What a start from the team!
We also want to reiterate our invitation to all SAC members for our "Squash afternoon Challenge" on Saturday, 6 December. It will be an occasion for squash players of all levels to participate and meet some of the SAC squash (Bomb) Squad and play some fun squash formats! Play to start from 2 pm. We will also organise a cup trophy ceremony for last year's winner of the King's Cup, Jerome Rideau.
See you on the courts!

The Golf Section’s 2025 Autumn Weekend took place between the 27th and the 29th of September in Granville, Normandy. Blessed with good weather, 18 participants enjoyed three days of golf and tourism in a beautiful part of Normandy, close to the Channel Islands and Mont Saint-Michel.
The Kiwi Cup (best net individual) was retained by the Jones family, this time with Ian in first prize with 41pts and Muriel in second. John Goodhardt won the Andrew Dean Trophy for best brut. The team competition on Monday was played in the Shamble format. It was won by the team of John Goodhardt, Corine Balleyguier and Jonathan Hibbs with a round of 63, followed by the team of John McCallum, Monica Greenwood and Naomi Moore also with a score of 63, but with a lesser back nine.
Thanks to all for your participation. Our next Golf Weekend will be in April 2026 at Belledune Golf Club in the Baie de Somme.

The old pavilion is the oldest full structure on our site, built by the Royal Army Corps of Engineers on the foundation of the original Clubhouse, which remained after it was dynamited by the retreating occupying forces in 1944. It was moved to its current location in 1956, as the old Clubhouse was rebuilt. It now serves 2 functions:
* 50% as a cricket pavilion
* 50% as a storage space for our ground care machinery.
In 2016, it was in a parlous state, as the Club didn't have the funds to repair it or maintain it.
With support from (then President) David Colson and the management team, the cricketers took on the task and set about raising the necessary funds from seasonal dues, “tea” payments, and volunteer coaching, amounting to around €7K in increased revenue per year. 9 years later, the last major part of the exterior renovation was completed this week at a cumulative cost of ~€50K, plus thousands of hours of volunteer time. Many people have contributed. However, the Club and Section would particularly like to record their immense gratitude to Andrew Jackson, carpenter extraordinaire, without whom this would have been impossible.

Four teams, made up of parents and children, took part in SAC's traditional Armistice Day football tournament on a perfect autumn morning on Tuesday, 11 November.
After a minute's silence following a short speech by Matthew Curtin, it was fellow sports-section head Laurent Brault who marshalled dads, daughters and sons into a mini-tournament of finely balanced teams, matching youth and experience.
Thanks to all who turned out for a memorable morning's sport.

Congratulations to Maude!
The Sue Hall Trophy is for the average of the best 3 net Stableford cards posted throughout the year.
The current state of play can be seen in the main article.
The 14 October Tournament resulted in 2 big scores: Alicia and Rémy, 1st in NS with 61.08% and Marie-Hélène and Jenny, 1st in EW with 68.6%. 2nd in NS - Ghislaine and Raphael with 53.58% and in EW Marie-Claire and Christine with 53%.
In the main article, you'll find both the SAC and the Nationwide results, plus the quiz answers and another page with 4 hands illustrating/explaining the replies to the take-out double.
Thanks again to all of you who were present, especially Maureen, who helped clear away the incredible mess in the children's room, and to Christine and Carole for their help with the cocktail.
Our next tournament will be on Tuesday, 18 November, at the same time and place.
As we all know, our Club is an Association 1901, which is run largely by volunteers. Much of this work is behind the scenes. Among the most important contributors, for many years, has been Paul Miller, who produces this Newsletter, the website, and all the Flash News posts that we all receive.
Paul, after some 20 years, is now looking to hang up his Newsletter-mailings-website boots and transition out of these roles. Firstly, we would like to express our thanks to Paul for all that he has done … and secondly, this is a call for volunteers to take on one or more of the roles which Paul has so diligently performed.
The Management Committee
Dear Members,
Please be advised that the club’s swimming pools closed on Monday, 6 October, for the winter season.
This annual closure during the cold season helps protect the facilities from harsh weather conditions and allows us to carry out essential maintenance work — including the installation of new "margelles" in the coming weeks.
We hope you enjoyed this summer season with our newly renovated pool, and we look forward to welcoming you back next spring.
Thank you for your understanding. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
The Management Committee
